Finally got a chance this evening to get my pictures from the recent trip up on PhotoBucket so I thought I'd post a few.

Estancia La Julia where we spent such a pleasant week. Built as a cattle ranch in 1886, now a polo pony training ground in the warm months. Owned by a former Argentina national rodeo champion and fine spanish guitar player.

Me and the boys warming up after a mornings shooting. They'd have a big fire built up in the gun room to dry out wet gear and have hot coffee waiting. Not the kind of treatment I'm used to, sorta made a country boy like me feel important.

A foggy morning on one of the shooting ponds.

A full plumage red shoveler drake, Parker in hand.

A brace of yellow billed pintail again with the Parker. Notice I'm not in my usual hunting garb. I wore my BigCamo.com gear one afternoon for my work as a spokesmodel.

The food was just as good as the duck shooting. Beef ribs, sausage, and freshly shot breast of pochard. This was just lunch, supper was really something!

I took two guns, this is my 100+ year old Remington Autoloading Shotgun that Jeff fixed up for me a couple years back. The ducks are mostly southern widgeon, yellow billed pintail, and rosy billed pochard with a sprinkling of teal. And yes, this was just my birds for one morning.

Hell with Ireland for curlew, I'm going back to Argentina to shoot more black ibis. I could have made a big bag on these several mornings and they're perfectly legal to shoot but they're awful pretty so I just took one to cover the species. The guides finger over the lense just makes it all the more special.

The humpback and a big handful of ol' black shags.

They hate the cormorant down there because, just like here, they're overpopulated and eat up all the fish. The guides would all cheer everytime you knocked one down, I got a lot of cheers......

Saved a few more choice ones for a possible article, if I get a turn down slip I'll post those as well.

Great pictures  ---  Must have been something. Very happy for you and all those who are able to go to places like that. Thanks for the look.

P.S.    Never seen short ribs cut like that --  will have to try it.

Don;

Destry will post the merganser photos right after he finishes fixing cormorant for supper.

The cost of the trip would be worth it just to slaughter those GD cormorants as they have raised total hell on the Lake Erie fish population plus our head in the sand wildlife officals still forbid their taking. They must be waiting for all the fish to eaten up before making a too late effort to cleanse the lake of them.

BTW great photos and we want more right now!!

The story of Destry's late night introduction to the tango by some professional ladies in the depths of Buenos Aires mysterious Palermo district would be most welcome as well. His memories of this midnight journey to the edges of depravity as he nods off to sleep in his dotage would be worthy of a story by the great Borges...light explodes from an opened tavern door, the music swirls and spills out into the street carrying with it two dark figures, sharp words, knives flash and El Hombre Grande is seen walking slowly back to his waiting motor car as the drizzle settles silently on a huddled corpse left only to shield the cobblestones from the night...fade to black...;)

I would think that it would be more like "Destry wobbles off to bed after an evening of heavy consumption of red meat, nondescript Spanish brandy, big South American reds, and story telling.  Later, an outrageously beautiful dark haired young lady, not yet out of her teens, enters the room and inquires about hombre grande's needs.  Our hero replies, 'mmmpphhh,  ahmmmmpphhh, schnooooookkk, mmmpphh, zzzzzzzmmpphhhhzzz.'  The young lady shrugs quizzically, turns, leaves the room to return to her mundane duties.   As she walks slowly down the long hallway, she wonders whether all North Americans wear the strange short billed hat to bed."   Will this be part of the Double Gun Journal article?

Nice pics D.  Looks like you had a great time down there.  you should have chased a Perdiz or two.  Ducks are good eating but the Perdiz are unbelievable!!

Harry, can you believe that I couldn't talk your local dealer into going with me??  We would never have been able to stand him if we ever unleashed him on something like that.  Waiting to hear from the undertaker about his doves this year!!

Thanks for the pics, Destry.  Post some more!!!!

Bill and Don,

The truth lies somewhere in between I think......

You all better come down next summer for the wedding, I'm marrying the cook from the estancia.

I proposed after she served our last dessert and she's accepted. I've got to get the engagement ring shipped down to her sometime this month.

Next time don't be so sound asleep when she comes into your room.  Keep one eye open at least until 2 AM.

Destry,

Great photos!

I think your fiance's name is Laura.

I'd like to attend the wedding -- as long as it's duck season.

Regards,

Don

"In the deep, cold basement of the main house of Estancia La Julia, there is, down a long staircase, in a dark corner, a point, a shimmering single suspended point...it is the Aleph Pato. All the ducks ever hunted and all the ducks that ever will be hunted swirl, twist and cup within that single point, forever and beyond forever...that is the truth of Estancia La Julia and it is only Destry who has seen all and has seen nothing. He has seen now and then and what will be and that is his destiny and his alone." -J.L. Borges;)

Oh, I believe Destry's dream girl was named "Beatriz Viterbo"....

Destry,

Nice pic's. Please post more.. Before you get married you might ought to check and see if you can get your favorite scotish or irish (don't remember which) whiskey shipped to your new residence.

I'm saving a few choice ones for a possible article.

Here's a pretty good one, holding up a handful of white cheeked pintail.

Destry;

Nice looking ducks, scenery, and gun, but that hat has to be buried somewhere far from civilization, besides it does not sit well on your hairy head, way too small and I can damn near smell it comming through the internet.

I would be interested in the results of a DNA test to see if, by chance, Roger Giles is Destry's father.

Would a urine sample be good enough to determine ratherhood?
