 Hi Folks,

First of all, thankyou for the wonderful site. I've spent a few weeks reading all of these posts now and feel like I've got a pretty good handle on what our gun is.

The main question is to how to insure it properly. I need to be able to call my insurance agent with at least an approximate replacement value. Can you fellas help me with a value?

My Granddad ordered this Gun. We don't know what year. I should say also that I've sent for a PGCA letter and my check was returned with a note saying that there are no surviving records.

I'll try and describe it for now and will get you some pics up soon.

Ser.# is 241841

3" chamber 12 ga.

1 1/2 frame

ghe grade

All original and has not been shot in probably 50 years. Mirror bores. No rust anywhere.

2 Ivory beads.

No raised rib.

Splinter forestock

Single trigger

Leg of mutton case looks original.

That's all I can think of for now and I'll get some pics up either later today or tomorrow.

If you post some pictures, there are people on this site that can give you the best opinion of value. These people have owned or own many many Parkers and are experts.

Your gun had to be one of the last ones made by Remington circa 1939-1940. The serialization book lists SN 241418 - 242487 as being made 1939-1942. Write Remington & they may be able to help, otherwise as was stated, post some pictures. There are plenty of knowledgeable Parkerphiles here who can help.

Best Regards, George Lander

Don't waste your time writing to Remington.  PGCA has everything Remington has documentation-wise on Parker guns, from the Dickensian scripted Order Books recording the earliest guns to the cryptic IBM punch cards on the last guns made.  Important things to document are:  Are the chambers original 3 inch length or have they been lengthened?; are the barrels original length and uncut? and etc.  It is very unlikely that a light-frame gun with short barrels was chambered for the 3 inch round, since it is a heavy load intended primarily for waterfowl shooting and the excessive recoil over time would invariably damage the stock (crack the head or wrist).   These little  details do much to authenticate a gun.  Take your time and seek out expert advice.  If all the detailed features jibe, you have a very desireable gun.  If not, its a very interesting conversation piece, so to speak.   KBM

We'll help you with your questions.  The easy way would be to post pictures.  The next easiest would be to let us know where you are located so we can recommend a PGCA member to contact to assist you.

Thankyou fellas. Lots of good info there. First of all. The gun is bonestock original. It has never been out of our families care in it's lifetime.

This pic taking is tough on these durn things. I'm working on it though and will try and get the right combo of lighting dialed in this morning.

The barrels are 30". They are both marked Full.

My maternal Granddad is the only one left around that has ever heard it fired. He says that it has a very distinctive crack, unlike any shotgun he has ever heard.

The splinter forepiece is marked with the same ser.# as the barrels and frame.

I'm located in Idaho, are there any members in my area?

Well I give up. I'm not 'puter literate enough. I'll try a link to my photo album and we'll see if that works.

Dave, thanks for the Lien's idea.

Looks like you need a password to look at the MySpace pics unfortunately.

Well it's a real 3 inch gun, that's a good start.

Why doesn't anybody shoot it? Does nobody in the family hunt?
