Fellow PGCA Members,
We are beginning to solicit donations for this years Silent Auction to be held at the Annual meeting at Easton MD, 25 – 28 September 2008. The Banquet will specifically be the evening of the 27th. For those of you who have not attended in the past, the silent auction is a great fundraiser for the association and a lot of fun to boot.
Items that have been auctioned off in the past include: Parker barrels, prints, decoys, reloading items, shooting vests, bags and pouches, gun cases and related items, books, and sporting or other items of interest.
We ask that you take a look around to see if you might have an item that you could part with that would be of interest to another member. Your name will be listed with the item at the time of auction and Greg Schroeder will also keep a list of donated items on the website to generate a bit of interest.
This is a great opportunity to help out your organization and your donations will be greatly appreciated. Auctions items can be shipped to my address or if you have any questions or just want to discuss a potential item call me directly at 817-270-8097 or shoot me an email at houghtonaz@hotmail.com.
This year to save some time we are asking that you ship any donation directly to the Eastern Shore at the following address:
James Houghton
213 Park Lane
Federalsburg MD 21632
Thanks a million!!!

A few great items have started to trickle in for the silent auction. We are off to a good start but still need sporting or other items you might no longer need. Don't hesitate to contact me at the above phone number or e-mail address to discuss an item you might have laying around. I'll try to update this thread every week or so with anything new. | We have just been given a very interesting and unique silent auction item from Florida member Tony Cibelli. It is a original painting from wildlife artist Allan Friedman. Allan has painted for Field and Stream, Fur Fish and Game as well as Cabelas catalogs. The painting is of a mallard taking flight. We are going to start the bidding very low so everyone will have a shot at this great piece of art. Attached Image (viewed 766 times):

| Bob Beach from G & H has donated an exteremely intersting pair of items for the auction. Bob is is charge of the Abercrombie & Fitch and Von Lengeke & Detmold gun sales records for Griffin & Howe. He is able to do extensive research on fine guns handled by those firms both new and some used as well. This info will include original owner information as well as many other interesting items about the gun. He currently has around 3000 Parkers in his records as well as many other American and European makers. He will provide 2 of the research letters for the auction. Good stuff and Thanks Bob!!!

| Member Angel Cruz has outdone himself! He moving down to Florida and decided to donate about 17 PRINTS to us for the silent action so he doesn't have to move them! The prints include Winchester, Winchester/Western, and samples from Joe Ferrara, Jim Gallup, and Ted Watts. These will do well at auction! Thanks Angel...

I have no idea what percentage of PGCA membership is able to attend the annual meeting, but I'd like to make a suggestion (food for thought?) on how the PGCA may increase participation and dollars from the Silent Auction.
Post pictures of Silent Auction items identified by Item Number on this web site, and allow PGCA Members who can not attend in person to place bids via email to a specific PGCA mail box. The highest bids received could then be listed on the silent auction sheets for those in attendance to bid against. Just like the Raffle Tickets, this would offer all members a chance to bid and perhaps win an item they would like to add to their collections, while filling the PGCA coffers at the same time...should be a win-win situation for the PGCA and members as a whole....

True, but on the other hand, the auction is incentive for the PGCA membership to attend the annual meeting and get together to meet face to face. Its a fun time; come to the meeting and get to know some really nice people.

Robin,
I am sure a fine time is had by all who can afford to attend. Yes, in my short time in the PGCA, I've been fortunate enough to meet and shoot with a few members already ... hope to be able to do so again.
Never the less, if you can you tell me what percentage (an average will do) of PGCA membership attends the meeting and banquet perhaps I'll change my thinking about the Silent Auction. Although I don't begrudge those who can afford the time and money to attend (and hope they do) I simply can not justify the expense of a two thousand mile round trip from the mid-west to MD to chat over drinks and shoot at high priced targets. Hence, my meager suggestion regarding the Silent Auction. Guess I'll just stay silent from now on ... thanks for listening anyway.

Cooper, the only reason this organization is as great as it is is because of suggestions and ideas from the members so please keep them coming as often as they pop into your thoughts. Don't go into "silent" mode.
Best Regards, Dean

Jeff Kuss has sent some neat items: 18 rifle rods from StoreMoreGuns.com, vintage "shotgun" box, a Leupold NRA quick release binocular harnes, and a vintage carved lamp depicting hunter with shotgun and pipe. Unique and great items. Thanks Jeff!
Also Our friends at Remington Arms have made a donation again this year. Several Targetmaster guncleaning kits. These things retail for over $50 a piece! Very nice items that we all can use.

A couple more great items have ahown up this week:
Maryland member Jerry Smith is donating a Parker vise wich should generate quite a bit of interest.
Also, Daryl Middlebrook got ahold of the good folks at Turnbull Restoration and Christine Nelson there has sent us a $250 gift certificate for services there.
Thanks to both for outstanding auction items.

| Well Gang, I just got off the phone with Mr. Jack Puglisi of Puglisi Gun Emporium. (http://www.pugsguns.com) First and formost, the leg injury is healing well and he is up and around without a brace of any kind. Secondly, Mr. Jack has generously offered a $1000.00 gift certificate to be auctioned off to the highest bidder at the silent auction! I would like to thank Jack and the rest of the crew at Puglisi's. Truely a great item that ALL of us would like to get our hands on...

The featured item in the live auction is a trip to Cabo San Lucas.
The items pictured below will also be included in the silent auction.

The high bidder in the live auction for the BOGDAN REEL book will enjoy dinner in Nashua NH. with Stan Bogdan, and myself for a personalized signing of the book.
